Why two filters and not one
The main line filter handles the whole house. It takes out chlorine taste and smell and catches sediment before it reaches your hot water system, your kettle, your washing machine and your shower.
The tap at the sink does a different job. It filters much finer, for the water you drink and cook with. It is a small unit in the cupboard with its own outlet on the bench, so you are not filtering the water that goes into your garden or your toilet at that level.
Bought separately the two come to $4,480, being $2,990 for Fresh Tap and $1,490 for Pure Only. Together they are $3,690, which is $790 less, because it is one visit, one licensed plumber and one compliance certificate rather than two of each.
How it works
- Send three photos. Your water meter and the pipe coming off it, where you would like the filter to go, and under your kitchen sink.
- Get your fixed price. Back the same day by SMS during business hours. Anything your photos show you need is already in that number.
- Pay a 50% supply deposit. Your system is ordered for your house. Your install date is locked in once the stock is in hand.
- A licensed plumber installs it. The balance is invoiced with your date and is due on or before the day. The plumber is the only person you will meet, and never handles payment.

Your photos tell us if the distance applies. Your quoted price includes it. Pressure is the one thing a photo cannot show, so your plumber tests it on the day. If it is over 500 kPa a pressure reducing valve is required at $350, and that figure is in your quote before you pay anything, so it is never a surprise. Nothing else is added on site.

Questions
Is it reverse osmosis?
Yes. Reverse osmosis pushes water through a membrane fine enough to take out dissolved material that a main line filter cannot reach, which is why it goes at the sink rather than on the main line. Ask us for the stage count and the full specification of the unit specced for your house and we will send it.
Does it waste water?
A filter at this level produces some waste water in normal operation. Ask us and we will give you the figure for the unit specced for your house.
Is Melbourne water safe already?
Yes. This is not about safety. It is about chlorine taste and smell, and protecting your appliances, fixtures and hot water system from sediment.
What brand is the system?
We do not advertise brand names, because it turns a finished, installed, warranted job into a parts comparison. Ask and we will tell you, and send you the spec sheet.
Do I need my own plumber?
No. A licensed plumber is included in the price and issues the compliance certificate for the work.
What if the filter cannot go next to the meter?
Most installs sit within 1.5 metres of the meter. If yours needs to be further it is $150 per extra metre, and it is in your quoted price before you pay anything.
What does the deposit cover, and can I get it back?
The 50% supply deposit orders your system and locks your date. Full refund if we cancel or cannot install. If you cancel after your system is ordered, we keep only our actual out-of-pocket cost.
How long does the install take?
Three to four hours. Your water is off for part of that.
What happens after the first year?
Both systems are fitted with a full set of cartridges, good for twelve months. At twelve months they need replacing, and Water Care is how that gets done: cartridges posted to you for $199 a year, or we come and fit them for $349. Neither is compulsory and there is no lock-in.
