Why it goes at the sink and not on the main line
Reverse osmosis filters far finer than a main line filter can. It also works slowly and produces some waste water in normal operation, so running a whole house through it is neither practical nor necessary.
That is the trade. This treats the water you drink and cook with, to a level nothing on the main line reaches. It does nothing for your shower, your kettle, your washing machine or your hot water system.
If chlorine smell in the shower is what bothers you, or you want sediment kept out of your appliances, this is the wrong product and Fresh Tap at $2,990 is the right one. If you want both, they are $3,690 together, which is $790 less than buying them separately.
Renting, or in an apartment
This is the package that suits you, and there are two things worth knowing before you enquire.
The tap needs a hole in the benchtop. Some kitchens already have a spare one. Most do not, and one gets drilled. That is permanent, so if you rent you need your landlord's written permission first, and it is worth asking before you pay a deposit rather than after.
It does not come with you easily. The unit unplumbs, but the hole in the bench stays and removing it is plumbing work. Tell us on the form if you are renting and we will tell you plainly whether it is worth doing.
The advantage over a whole-house system is real though: nothing is fixed to a wall outside, nothing touches the main line, and in an apartment with a shared meter this is usually the only filtration that is possible at all.
How it works
- Send a photo of under your kitchen sink. Open the cupboard, move the bin, one shot of the whole cupboard including the pipes at the back. A photo of the bench around your tap helps as well.
- Get your fixed price. Back the same day during business hours.
- Pay a 50% supply deposit. $745. Your system is ordered for your house and your install date is locked in once the stock is in hand.
- A licensed plumber installs it. The balance is invoiced with your date. The plumber never handles payment.

Questions
Is it reverse osmosis?
Yes. Reverse osmosis pushes water through a membrane fine enough to take out dissolved material that a main line filter cannot reach. Ask us for the stage count and the full specification of the unit specced for your kitchen and we will send it.
Does it filter the shower and the laundry?
No. It treats the one tap it is fitted to. Every other outlet in the house runs exactly as it does now. Fresh Tap is the one that treats every tap.
Do I need a hole drilled in my benchtop?
Usually, unless your sink already has a spare hole. It is permanent, so if you rent, get your landlord's permission in writing first.
Does it waste water?
A system at this level produces some waste water in normal operation. Ask us and we will give you the figure for the unit specced for your kitchen.
Does it need power?
No power point is needed for a standard install. If your kitchen needs a pumped system we will tell you before the day, not on it.
What happens after twelve months?
The cartridges need changing. Water Care is how that gets done, either posted to you or fitted by us, and it is optional with no lock-in.
Can I add the whole house later?
Yes, and it costs more than doing both at once. Fresh Tap on its own is $2,990, so the two bought separately come to $4,480 against $3,690 together.
