What the UV is for
A sediment filter removes what is in the water that you could see or feel: grit, leaf matter, silt off the roof, the fines that come through after a dry spell. A carbon stage takes out taste and smell.
UV does a different job. It treats bacteria and viruses that a filter cannot remove, by passing the water through ultraviolet light on the way into the house. It is the standard treatment for stored rainwater and it is why the two are sold together.
It is not a guarantee about your water. It is a treatment stage, it needs the lamp replaced every twelve months to keep working, and that replacement is what House Call exists for.
How it works
- Send your photos. Your pump and the pipe coming off it, and where the tank line enters the house. A photo of the nearest power point helps.
- Get your fixed price. Back the same day by SMS during business hours, with travel confirmed in the number.
- Pay a 50% supply deposit. $1,745. Your system is ordered for your house and your install date is locked in once the stock is in hand.
- A licensed plumber installs it. The balance is invoiced with your date. The plumber never handles payment.
If your property needs it
| Extra | Price |
|---|---|
| Install more than 1.5 metres from the point the line enters, per extra metre | $150 |
Travel to regional Victoria is confirmed in your quoted price before you pay anything. If a power point is not available near the pump, your plumber tells you before the day rather than on it.
Questions
Does this work on bore water?
Bore water is by enquiry rather than a fixed price. It varies far more than tank water and the right treatment depends on a test.
Does the UV need power?
Yes, a power point near the pump. If there is not one, your plumber will tell you before the install day rather than on it.
How often does the lamp change?
Every twelve months. Your system is installed with the first lamp fitted, and it needs replacing at twelve months. Tank systems are House Call only, so a licensed plumber comes and does it: the lamp fitted, the quartz sleeve cleaned and the cartridges changed. $379 a year, and it is optional.
What about tannin or colour in the water?
The carbon stage helps with mild colour and taste. Heavy tannin is by enquiry, because it needs a different stage.
